We are seeking a Mid-Senior Environmental Biologist to support ecological assessment, permitting, and environmental compliance projects across the San Diego region. This role will suit an experienced professional who can combine strong field biology skills with sound technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple assignments. You will contribute to projects involving biological surveys, habitat assessments, sensitive species evaluations, impact analyses, and regulatory documentation for public and private sector developments.
Key responsibilities will include planning and conducting biological field surveys; identifying native plants, wildlife, habitats, and special-status species; documenting field observations using GPS, maps, photographs, and standardized data forms; and preparing biological technical reports, constraints analyses, monitoring plans, and permit-support materials. You may also assist with environmental impact documents, mitigation and restoration planning, construction monitoring, agency coordination, and compliance inspections. The position will involve collaboration with project managers, planners, engineers, regulators, contractors, and clients, as well as reviewing technical work prepared by less experienced biologists. Occasional early morning starts, evening surveys, weekend work, and travel throughout Southern California may be required.
Candidates should have a degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline, along with several years of relevant professional experience. Strong knowledge of Southern California ecosystems, applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and regional special-status species is highly desirable. Experience with wetland and waters delineations, habitat restoration, nesting bird surveys, wildlife handling protocols, or permitting under regulations such as the California Environmental Quality Act, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act will be valued. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent technical writing, organization, and interpersonal skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS applications; sound field safety practices; and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams. Relevant professional certifications, agency experience, and a valid driver's license are advantageous.
